drivers disabled?

Sep 3, 2006 12:01PM PDT

I have an HP a81 and I went to burn music onto a CD and I was unable to. I have done this several times before but I am getting an error message that my drivers are disabled. I don't know how this happened. Any help on how to get them enabled again would be appreciated.

Thank you

drivers/device manager
Sep 3, 2006 2:19PM PDT

Try going into device manager (Right Click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager) and open up DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right click your device and click uninstall. Then click Action, scan for hardware changes and it should reinstall the Drive.
-Next still in device manager, right click your CD Drive again and click update driver.
-If all this doesn't work try calling the company that makes your CD Drive and see what they have to say. The Drive or Burner could be broken.

Yellow explamation

Thank you for your response. I went through the steps and upon scanning for hardware changes they reappeared, but there is a yellow circle with an explamation point. Is there anything else I can do?

drivers disabled?

I do not know what a BIOS is? I went through all the steps on the links you attached. The yellow exclamations points are gone, but they are still not enabled.

What information do you need - The drives are ASUS CD-S480/A5 and TSST Corp CD/DVDWTS-H552B

Wrong link. Here's the one I'd use.

As to what a BIOS is, I don't think you need to know this yet. Besides you could explore that on your own at howthingswork.com or other places.

In the meantime, here's the correct article showing what registry keys I'd remove to get the drives working again.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

And in advance, I know you may not have installed said software but the cure remains the same. I can't help you if you want an article that is exactly tailored to your issue.

The were no upper or lower filters located in this registery.

I have tried all the fixes that have been posted thus far, but so far no luck.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you for your help.

One more time.

" The were no upper or lower filters located in this registery. "

I would check one last time. Some wrote back and had inserted a space into the search. That is they looked for "upper filters" and not "upperfilters".

There are lowerfilters and upperfilters located in other area of the registry. Should they be there? Should I remove them from other locations?

These are the ones I found:

List and findings.

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{0B8C48A4-3281-11D4-BBF1-0090CCA13413}

Yes, it's a CD/DVD entry. Remove both upperfilters and lowerfilters.

Reference? Google.com

I'll just write yes or no on each.

2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=6294 notes again this can cause CODE 28 and other errors. I'd remove it after the entries with CD/DVD references.

3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Looks like BAD NEWS!
Read http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.actmon.html and see if your machine is infected.

4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

A mouse filter driver? Very odd. Check item 3.

5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC5-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

Modem related. Still odd, check item 3.

6. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6D807884-7D21-11CF-801C-08002BE10318}

Seems storage related. I'd read http://www.cristalink.com/fsrm/hh.aspx?id=tshoot-noaccess and consider removal.

7. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

Maybe the Acronis or other storage manager. While I'd remove it, it would be good to know if you had Acronis installed first.

Only a problem with burning
Sep 4, 2006 10:02AM PDT

I can play cd's and games, but I am unable to burn cds. The error I get when I open sonic record now is "All your drives are disabled, On the operating system in order to start RecordNow you must either physically remove your drive or enable at least one drive".

I have tried all the fixes that have been posted thus far, but so far no luck.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you for your help.
