It's fairly simple. Microsoft doesn't install or find such for you. What you have may be out of date.

Via made it easy with a simple monolithic download from http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=403

At first this seemed to solve the problem as the driver installed, but on checking I get that no driver has been instAlled . Did I miss something Bob?

Your post needs more information. Such as, what problem, and how you determined no driver was installed.

suggested a series of updates I needed to do. Had no problems wuntil I came to 3 VIA updates VIA Bus Master IDE Controllers, VIA REV 5 or later USB Universal Host Controlers, VIA AC'97 Audio Controller. I don't know why But these updates have hit a blind spot, must not be thinking right. Below are Computer Specs.

Again...

While interesting, you didn't answer my question. Let me state something and then you can try again.

"Had no problems wuntil I came to 3 VIA updates"

This makes my think you used WINDOWS UPDATE and tried Microsoft's offerings of updated drivers. You won't be happy that Microsoft should not offer such without warning people that such may not be for their machine.

My comment? You didn't write if this was so. Don't make the forum "guess." If we guess, then it will likely be a bad guess.

Re:Driver Replacement Problem for a MS-6378(VT8361)

Now that we know the make (MSI) and model MS-6378(VT8361) , we can find the drivers.

First, a comment.

AC97 doesn't mean anything when it comes to drivers. It's a generic term to denote some basic sound capability, but can be some dozen (hundreds?) different chipsets with some dozen specific drivers. I write this as a FYI and not for much else...

HERE'S YOUR DRIVERS -> http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=22

NOTICE they use the Via4in1 package.
