driver for USB memory

I am configuring a IBM Thinkpad 390E 2060 EOG for my grandson. It's a PII 233 MHz 128 Mb RAM and I have Win98 (Deutsch version) installed.

Everything works OK so far, except that it asks me for a driver to use with the now very common USB memory drives. I cannot find this driver in the Win98 CD I have and I do not know where else could I look for it.

Memory USB comes from thousands different suppliers and are generic nowadyas.

Could someone help me please?

Thanks a lot!

No way

In reply to: Re: USB stick driver

I followed that link but I was too much afraid about installing the Win98 Service Pack, as it is "for English" only and my Win98 is FE and the German version.

I tried installing the driver anyway but it does not work (the OS keeps sending me to find a driver). So I am getting desperate.

Thank you anyway.

See if you can find a German ...

original Microsoft Windows 98 SE (upgrade version or full version) on the usual second-hand sites (eBay, or whatever else they have with you). There should be many around.

Thanks. could do that, but if I ever decide to reinstall the OS and face again the many, many hours of work and frustration due to failed drivers installations, I would use Win2K and not win98. This Laptop is extremely unfriendly when it comes to driver installations. IBM did not a nice job with this part of the machine.

Right now I plan to leave the laptop as is and discard using USB pen drives at all.

(rather) good news

In reply to: Frustrated

Before giving up, I tried a pragmatic solution: searching drivers for each pen drive brand and not for a generic drive. I suceeded with RecoNdata (256 Mb unit) and it is now recognized OK for the OS.

Then I tried my luck with Ijoy (a 4 GB device) but the driver makes 56 Mb and I believe this is not notrmal. Moreover, it is probable that Win98 cannot deal with a Flash memory so big as this one.

Thank you any way for your efforts.
