Driver Blocked Due to Compatibility Issues

Feb 8, 2007 1:09AM PST

My new Vista program is possessed with a demon file that I cannot get rid of regardless of numerous attempts.

On start-up a window entitled ?Program Compatibility Assistant? appears with the following message:
This driver is blocked due to compatibility issues.

The driver identified is: ?Driver: Sonic Solutions DLA?

What is worse is that this window keeps popping up frequently as I attempt to work. (?Yes, I know you?re there; just leave me alone? is my response.)

I have tried to remove this offending driver through the Vista remove programs process without success. It apparently was installed by DELL on my computer at the factory along with other files associated with Sonic Solutions? Roxio Creator ? My DVD Combo.

I do not use the program.

Every time Vista loads, this annoying pop-up window appears with the message that the driver is blocked due to incompatibility issues. No help is available on line when one selects the ?Check for solutions online? option. The answer given is that ?Windows will notify you when solutions become available.? The first thought is that this solution will appear along about the time donkeys fly.

Is there a way to remove this file?

Thank you.

Don't worry. you didn't do anything wrong, it is a well known problem to do with Roxio Drag and Drop player. i used this link and it worked. http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/vista/d2d_update.html. It is a vista compatability issue. try it and see. if it doesn't work post another reply and i will try to remember how i set it up.

"Driver Blocked Due to Compatibility Issues" - the answer...
Feb 27, 2007 8:06PM PST

I had the same problem - found found the resolution on this page. It involves visiting the Roxio site where they explain that the file is "misclassified" by Vista as incompatible, whereas it actually is not.
They have a patch (so called - it is 15MB plus) which did resolve the propblem for me.
I believe it is a rewrite though as it involved uninstalling and re-installing (all done automatically).

Now there's no sign of a problem anywhere.

Dave.

Same problem
Mar 1, 2007 2:02PM PST

Hi, I constantly get those warnings too but on a brand new HP computer with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. I got the roxio message today while burning recovery disks. I had no clue where the driver came from or what was happening. I'm too insecure to remove anything right now because I don't have Go Back to lean on anymore. I've been pushing some of my programs back to compatability with xp but that doesn't work with everything.

HP has a very hard time with Windows Vista. They were very slow jumping on the Vista train, best this to do is check out HP web site or caal there support lin, they happen to have a very good support, good luck but there is light at the end of the Vista tunnel. Billy Amato (NYC)

When launching Microsoft Vista with Easy Media Creator 9 Suite, MyDVD 9, or RecordNow 9 installed, the following message appears:

Program Compatibility Assistant

This Driver is blocked due to compatibility issues

Check online to see if solutions are available from the Microsoft website. If solutions are found, Windows will automatically display a website that lists steps you can take.

Driver: Sonic Solutions DLA
Publisher: Sonic Solutions
Location: Not available

A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. This driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of Windows.

This error may also appear for customers running applications other than those listed as Vista compatible.

Make sure your computer is ready for the edition of Windows Vista you want. Windows Vista Upgrade advisor can help. Learn more here.

Cause
Through a clerical error, a driver is incorrectly being blocked as incompatible with Windows Vista. In fact, all Easy Media Creator 9 products, including the latest version of MyDVD and Record Now are fully compatible with Windows Vista.
Resolution

The error, while annoying, will not effect the functionality of Easy Media Creator 9, RecordNow 9, or MyDVD 9. However, if you wish to eliminate the error, we currently offer two work-around's for the issue. One is for Dell OEM customers and one non-Dell customers.

For Dell Customers

The patch is not intended for a customer base other than Dell. If you do not own a Dell system, it is being offered "as is" and to be used at your own risk.

To download and install the Roxio DLA Update:

Click here for the DLA patch. When the file Download window appears, click Run. Note: If a Security Warning window appears, Click Run.
Follow the installer's on-screen instructions.
When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
The computer restarts, and the update is complete.

If the patch does not apply to your computer or fails to eliminate the problem, please continue to the instructions below for non-Dell customers.

Instructions for non-Dell Customers

Please read the Microsoft Knowledge Base article The Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update before continuing. Removing this update may effect other applications on your computer. If you wish to reinstall the update at any time, the Microsoft Knowledge Base article offers a link to re-download it.

Also, be sure that you are running a Vista compatible version of Roxio software as listed in the article Windows Vista Support for Roxio products. If you are unsure of what version of the software you have, you can find out by launching the software and choosing About ... from the Help menu.

To remove the update:

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.
On the left of the Programs and Features window, click View installed updates.
After the Installed Updates window loads, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows payne.
Right-click Update for Microsoft Windows (KB929427) and select Uninstall.
Rather than restart your system, shut it down completely and then reboot. The error should be eliminated.

No sound on Dell inspirion
Mar 27, 2007 9:01PM PDT

hello everyone, Just took my brand new Dell inspirion, complete with Windows Vista, out of the box on Sunday, and it ran OK, played CDs using windows media 11. However, yesterday, the sound driver "disappeared", and I get a message that there is no sound output driver in the machine. Can't be so, as it worked two days before. This morning, a message appeared when I opened the computer to tell me that "a driver installed is incompatible with the system, and was causing instability", and it was disabling the driver. This driver was identified as coming from Sonic Solutions DLA. Now it seems that that is the DVD burner?? Or is that why I have no sound on my laptop??
In addition, the windows version is identified as "not genuine", and the seal on the bottom is not recognised. Any ideas??

Toshiba "Fix" Sonic Solutions DLA and Vista
Apr 24, 2007 6:22PM PDT

I too had the same problem with a brand new Toshiba P100 laptop bought in Jan 2007 & eventually got the "free" upgrade to Vista.
Most of the early glitches were fixed but the Sonic solutions error beat me, I tried the vista 32bt patch - failed, eventually out of desperation I used the Dell patch & hey presto it worked.

Strange I didn't know Toshiba is a long Japanese name for Dell

If that's a Dell computer...
Jun 15, 2007 12:45PM PDT

I was able to fix mine. My problem started happening when I installed Roxio's Photosuite 5. None of the fixes I found on Roxio's, Dell's, etc., website worked. Here's what I did:

1) Open Windows Explorer.
2) Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers.
3) Right-click anywhere on the headings (where it says "Name", "Date modified", "Type", "Size", etc.).
4) Click "More..." on the popup menu.
5) Click to check "Company".
6) A new column will be added to Explorer's list called "Company".
7) Click on "Company" heading to sort by Company.
Cool Cut-and-paste all files with Company "Roxio" somewhere else like maybe c:\temp.
9) Reboot.

If the message disappears, you can probably delete the files you copied on c:\temp.

no updates found for Dell issue
Jul 19, 2007 12:02AM PDT

I've been reading all the posts and plan to try one of the patches listed for my new Dell. My question is, if all these patches are now available how come nothing is found when you select the option to scan for updates to correct the problem?? Sorry to say I've had this driver problem for three months and kept looking for online updates when I should've looked here...thanks for all the guidance.
