Driver Blocked Due to Compatibility Issues

Feb 8, 2007 1:09AM PST

My new Vista program is possessed with a demon file that I cannot get rid of regardless of numerous attempts.

On start-up a window entitled ?Program Compatibility Assistant? appears with the following message:
This driver is blocked due to compatibility issues.

The driver identified is: ?Driver: Sonic Solutions DLA?

What is worse is that this window keeps popping up frequently as I attempt to work. (?Yes, I know you?re there; just leave me alone? is my response.)

I have tried to remove this offending driver through the Vista remove programs process without success. It apparently was installed by DELL on my computer at the factory along with other files associated with Sonic Solutions? Roxio Creator ? My DVD Combo.

I do not use the program.

Every time Vista loads, this annoying pop-up window appears with the message that the driver is blocked due to incompatibility issues. No help is available on line when one selects the ?Check for solutions online? option. The answer given is that ?Windows will notify you when solutions become available.? The first thought is that this solution will appear along about the time donkeys fly.

Is there a way to remove this file?

Thank you.

ROXIO is the problem
Dec 16, 2007 4:39AM PST

there is a compatibility problem between Vista and Roxio so you will need to uninstall the roxio drag to disc option and reboot. this should solve the problem. if not i will try to remember how i did it many moons ago.

I had the same pop up. I contacted Dell and he went into control panel and then Programs and Features. He then went down to Roxio and deleted one of the Roxio files. I regret that I can't remember which it was.
Possibly someone else can give you the specific file that he deleted to stop the pop up for me.

Solution to Roxio Issue
Feb 24, 2007 5:26AM PST

I used the advice of another user, and visited the roxio site. They had a solution for dell users and non-dell users. It seemed to have worked. I never got the Compatibility issue warning again.

Sonic Solutions DLA Compatibility Issue
Mar 7, 2007 9:47AM PST

The solution at the link
http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000131CR worked for me. I followed the instructions for the Dell OEM customers. I have a new Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook running Windows Vista Business. The downloaded file actually uninstalls Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 and reinstalls it. I don't know if it has a fix in it or not, but it worked. Thanks!

go to Update for Microsoft Windows look in your history and look for (KB929427) and select Uninstall. That may work, also go to programs and Uninstall Sonic Solutions (Roxio)DLA - you don't need it, Vista now has that.

Dear Bill,
Saw all of your previous E-Mails about this problem. Thank you so much for your persistance. Just got a new laptop from Dell with Vista operating system installed. The computer geeks at my job were unable to figure out this problem. I am a total novice who is just learning how to use a computer. But even "I" was able to follow your simple instructions to install the patch! Thank you so much for sharing this information to a very frustrating situation. Now my only question is: What is the Sonic Driver used for??? Tech guys at work thought it has something to do with the DVD Burner ... I don't have the vaguest idea. Thanks again for your persistance. And thanks for sharing it with others.

- Collapse -
They're correct...
Mar 25, 2007 2:32AM PDT

I'm not Bill, but the guys at work were right. The Sonic driver is to enable special functionality when it comes to burning CDs and DVDs. Specifically, DLA lets you treat a CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD+RW disc similar to a floppy, saving files directly to it and then erasing individual files. (Using 'normal' burning methods, you would have to save the file to your hard drive first and then burn it, and you would have to erase the entire disc if you wanted to remove a single file from rewritable CDs/DVDs.) This is obviously a huge benefit, but it is not as reliable as using 'normal' methods. Thus, some would recommend using your Nero/Roxio/Sonic burning software as you normally would and simply ignoring DLA.

Thanks for your response to help me understand more about the Sonic Solutions DLA and what it does. Your info was very helpful. All of this is very intimidating to a "baby boomer" who is just getting started. But thanks to people like you ... I feel like I'm finally moving into the 21st century! Thanks again for taking the time to explain.
