Drive plays DVDs, but won't recognize CDs/CDRs!

Jan 7, 2005 8:22AM PST

Hey all,
If anyone has any suggestions they'd be appreciated...my Sony VAIO PCG-FXA36 Notebook (Windows XP OS) recently has stopped recognizing any and all CDs/CDRs. DVDs play just fine, but any other disc placed in the CDRW/DVD combo drive just causes it to spin for about 2 minutes and then stop. Explorer then shows that the drive is empty...ditto for trying to search it from the Command Prompt.

I've tried searching it in Safe Mode, this doesn't work either...there are no device conflicts that I can recognize/find...Other people seem to be having this problem with VAIOs, but I can't find a solution anywhere! Please help...

Juan
