Drive not recognised

Sep 7, 2005 1:32AM PDT

Hi. I have an external hard drive that will work in the rear USB 2.0 ports but not the front. The power light comes on but then i get message that says 'Drive not recognised' I am using XP Pro. This only happens on the front USB connectors. I have made sure that all the wiring is correct on the main board and that the USB options are enabled from BIOS. Any ideas guys? THX

Is that many front ports are not using wiring suitable for USB 2.0 use. Your post is void of details so this is all I can offer.

is this drive externally powered or from the USB ports? Some wired, your front (versus on board, rear) USB ports aren't powered for larger devices.
