drive inaccessible

hi i have a 20 Gb hdd that i am using as a slave with another 80gb hdd both are seagate products
i use the slave to store my audio files that i sometimes work with. i attempted to defragment the drive and it failed with the error message drive inacesible.
the error log states the device\haarddisk1\d has a bad block
i tried system restore and using the system as slave to some other device bt it is still inaccessible how can i recover my files the backup is not at my present location
my system is winxp with 512 ram 1.8Ghz
