Dreaded half black screen

Dec 5, 2006 2:40AM PST

Windows Xp Home Sp2
Firefox 1.5.0.8

When navigating between topics the first open page is a half screen black and half white. This has not occured since a fix in the old forum.

Read post are red when no unread post are existing,

New forum much slower than old forum.

Are these items being corrected?

Ray

RE: Dreaded half black screen...
Dec 5, 2006 11:52AM PST

To my knowledge the half-black screen issue had not been reported yet. It has happened to me several times, but I was unable to reproduce it on another computer so I assumed it was something on my end. Just to check, do you have any extensions installed and have you been able to spot it using IE or Opera?

The read posts issue has been reported but like a couple other issues seems to be eluding the engineers. It's one I certainly hope to see corrected soon, though thankfully it has been less prevalent for me the past couple days.

Load times, though, have been faster for me as a result of moving to the new servers. Then again, I block a couple advertising servers that are used here and are known to slow down load times now and then. I'd suggest doing the same and seeing if that clears it up.

Phil if you experience this please get a screen shot of it

I'm unable to reproduce this in FF. Screen shot is better than nothing to go on for the engineers.

Thanks a bunch!

Black stripe today, but not half the screen.

Hi Lee,
I actually have not experienced this before today, but here's a screenshot of a black stripe I'm getting on all my screens here today.

Hope that helps,

That's in memory of James Kim...
Dec 8, 2006 7:37AM PST

On Wednesday Cnet updated the website to include a black stripe across the top with a link to the James Kim memoriam. However, it never did appear at the top of the forums until today, and at this point it's still not rendering the link. It's not related to the half-screen issue, though it is curious why the code is not working properly here in the forums.
