Drag and Drop

Nov 15, 2010 3:24PM PST

I am buying a new Dell XPS to replace a 2002 XPS Win XP. Lots has changed in computers since then. My question is: With Windows 7, do I need to have software, such as Roxio/Nero, to drag and drop to a CD/DVD or to format?

My thanks......Miki

I think it's personal choice.

Windows will allow drag and drop to a CD as long as the CD/DVD drive is CD/DVD R/RW, and that's been the case since Windows XP. But personally I always found Windows own 'copy to CD' option a little clumpy, and so I used what came with the system, which is Nero. The system is an OEM so it probably doesn't have the full features, but it is enough for me.

If your new Dell is an OEM version it may have Nero pre-installed. If not, you could always try the free CDBurnerXP which despite it's name is also compatible with Vista and Windows y.

I hope that helps, and good luck with your new Windows 7. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I liked the Dell promotion for their XPS, "Brace Yourself!". Happy

Your reply is very helpful. In the past, I have always purchased Roxio/Nero software for my Dells which I ordered with a CD/R and a CD/RW drive, so never had the opportunity to experience the lacking in XP you mention.

My new computer will be OEM and most likely wlll have a single all-in-one CD/DVD/R/RW. If Nero/Roxio comes with the system, the fact that it does not have the full features will be enough for me, too.

Thank you, again......miki
