Downsizing to a laptop, need help!

by mattwilliams85 / December 10, 2007 7:45 AM PST

I'm finally deciding to cash in my behemoth CPU for a nice little notebook computer. Problem is, I've always built my computers so I really don't know which company to get my laptop from! Basically I want to spend around 1000-2000 dollars, and I won't be gaming at all on the notebook. I'll be mainly using it for web-browsing, media, and school work. My only real requirement is that it needs to have a DVI port. (to connect to my LCD monitor)

Oh and it wouldn't hurt if it looks slick too

I'm open to any and all suggestions, thanks in advance.

For me I have a pair of Acer's we picked up for the 599 dollar price. Both have the usual core duo, 1G RAM, DVD DL writers, USB, wifi, Vista, etc. I'll wait a bit to bump one or both to 2G RAM but there are no gaming on these (well the kid plays some online games when we travel) but at 599 for the 15 and the 17 inch laptops I'm unsure if I'd need to spend more than this.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
