Could someone please tell me the difference between a secure download and ordinary download. Many Thanks

There are very few secure downloads. Those from https sites are secured, but these are usually sites like banks. Your AV should monitor the download for viruses, if not you can check the downloaded file before you open it. AdAware and adWatch will obstruct any changes to registry keys.
