downloading problems, please help

hi, i m using an g4 i book, running on 10.3. i ve only recently started using the internet on it and can hardly download anything, such as messenger! i have treid changing the settings for security and firewall but didn t help. anyone any ideas? please??

what is it that you are trying to download? You mentioned Messenger, which one?
What sort of internet connection do you have? Cable/DSL/Dialup?
Do you get any error messages when you try to download? What are they?
Could you name a few places from which you cannot download or even the file names, and three letter extension (.abc) of the file.

sorry, of course..

i tried downloading messenger 5 for mac. i am using safari.
i am using a wirelss connection through AirPort. the message i get when i try to download is simply 'cannot create file'
i literally cannot download anything scuh as .doc, .pdf etc., only .jpeg works. any ideas?

Are you trying to download to the desktop or to some other place.
Would it be possible for you to connect to the internet without the Airport, with just the ethernet cable into the modem and then try to download.
It sounds as though you are trying to download to a place that is locked, like a CD, but that is just a guess
