Downloading pics from my camera to my computer

Jun 15, 2010 8:01AM PDT

I have Vista for Windows. I cannot seem to download just one picture from my camera to my computer. The system is indicating that I must download every picture in the camera I have attached to my computer. This doesn't seem right. It was so simple with Windows XP. I just looked thru the pics on my camera, and selected the ones I wanted to download. Can anyone help me. Perhaps direct me to where I can get help. Oh, free help.I can't see why I should have to pay for instructions on how to use a product I have already paid for

Two ideas.

1. When you post, tell the make and model of the camera.

2. Try the Cnet Digital Camera Forum

But without make or model, I'm wondering if there is something simple we can do.

This is a feature of Windows Vista

Windows detects your newest pictures and doesn't import duplicate versions of older pictures that you've already copied to your computer. This way you get all your pictures on the computer with no repeats. If you view your pictures in Photo Gallery, you can view in large previews making it easy to decide which pictures you'd like to delete from your computer.

Thanks Cassandra,
Your reply was the most succinct. I guess I just have to down load any new pictures from my camera, and just delete the ones I don't want.

Downloading only one picture....

If you used the default Windows program to import your photos, maybe you can't, but have you tried other methods ? Using a card reader, for example ? Some cameras can be treated as a storage device and you can browse the photos and select which to download..... Have you read through the owner's manual for the camera ?

not a fan of this feature. many times i have different events taken but not downloaded. Sometimes a couple hundred pics. I might only want to download one event or one pic. It just takes too long to download two hundred pics for just one or two shots. I have vista on my laptop and do not want all my pics on it but i will download everything to my XP at home.
