Think back and see if you can remember making any changes to your computer after you last downloaded some photos.
Such as added new programs, reloaded the operating system, added a new hardware component.
................
Some cameras/software require that the camera be in "playback" mode when downloading photos. That is the mode you use when viewing your photos on the camera LCD screen. Make sure the camera is turned-on and in playback mode before plugging in the USB cable.
You can also try removing your EXIF viewer software and then reinstalling it.
......
You might want to consider using a card reader to download your photos. Just be sure to get one that can handle your "smart media" memory cards.
If you are using Windows XP, the card reader will install itself. If you are using Win98, you will have to install some drivers that come with the card reader.

.
I have a Fujifilm 4900 FinePix camera which I have had for at least 5 years. Suddenly, my photos will not download to my PC which is a Compaq Presario 5837. I was using Exif Viewer which was provided with the camera. There is a USB icon in my LED screen on the camera when I plug it in to the PC. It never used to appear. The pictures just started to download. The background square appears but no thumbnails on it.
I used the download just a few days ago and it was fine then.
Any ideas?
