General discussion

Downloading Hallmark flash cards.

Mar 16, 2004 9:07AM PST

WIN98se

This is a continuing problem. I used to be able to download and send Hallmark flash cards. Then, for some reason, when I clicked on a flash card the download went as far as "1 item remaining" and then froze - no picture appeared.

However, everytime I upgraded the Flashplayer I could get the cards to download, but only once or twice. (Perhaps only until I switch off my PC and rebooted, I never noticed)

All other flash cards on other sites seem to download OK. My wife likes the Hallmark cards so I am keen to get the thing working. Any ideas - is there a way of manually activating the flash player from my end as the automatic activation does not seem to be working.

Hi Basil,

I "think" the webpage of Hallmark.com is down at the moment. Just tried it and it does NOT connect.

No, Marianna, all I got was:

We're Sorry...

A technical problem on our end has interrupted your shopping session. We apologize for the inconvenience.

and instructions and urls for getting back into the site.

Have you read the answers to the problem on the forum site I posted in my second message. The person there has the exact same problem and as you can see there seemed to be no easy fix. I find it significant that the thing works immediately after an upgrade download and then goes. There must be a clue in that?

Yep, I had the same problem - but now it works again :)

Basil,

May I suggest you contact the webmaster at Hallmark. If these problems are unique for their site, and you're not the only one who experiences them (see the discussions you found on google), they should be able to find and remedy the problem.

I suppose they will be glad with this feedback from an unhappy customer. Probably it's new for them, or they would have solved it already. There are lots of sites with Flash cards, I remember from previous discussions, where they can see what they should do differently. It's in their interest people can visit their site, isn't it?

Hope this helps.

Kees

Hi Kees, thanks for your advice. Marianna has sent me a new link that seems to work, although I am not confident as it has worked before and then stopped.

I will see how I go and if this fails I will definitely contact them.

Thanks again.

I passed it on to another forum...

... and it is well worthwhile when you get a reply like the one below:

BlockedBazza, Lord Mercy...I could hug your neck...buy you a steak...whatever it takes. I can't express my jubilation. I saw the message you posted last night and I didn't get a chance until a little while ago to try your suggestion. I thought...bless your heart for taking the time to post after coming across the dilema I had with Hallmark...but I did think, certainly worth a shot but ...no way it will work. I cannot tell you how much frustration...how many hours of different attempts...how much help was offered here at TMF in trying to solve this problem...how many emails to Hallmark...always with the same reply (the problem was always on my end)....how many times I tried uninstalling and reinstalling macromedia flash player & shockwave....and on & on it goes. So anyway...earlier this afternoon I uninstalled macromedia flash player and deleted cookies. Downloaded the version you posted and thought....well I will install in a little while and then I will have to reinstall macromedia flash player because this just ain't gonna work....but it certainly is worth a try, when someone is kind enough to come across another person's problems and at least offer a suggestion. So just a little while ago, I installed the version you posted and let out a big holler for my wife to come into my 'space' and see what had happened. It was wonderful to see Hallmark ecards loading!!!!!!!! I could blabber on & on, but let me shut up by saying...bless your heart...thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to share your suggestion.

BlockedBazza?? that was their suggestion when all my other possible log on names had failed. The reason for the success of this particular player was, I believe, advances in web connectivity.

From hero to zero...

and pride comes before a fall and all that. The Damn Hallmark site has returned to its usual non- cooperative self.
The bloke from the other forum, Ron, has contacted Hallmark many times but they keep on saying the problem is at our end although all other flash e-mail card sites work perfectly.

Basil,
I use
w98se
ie6sp1
msjava 3810
flashplayer 7.0.19

I can find no combo of things at my end to stop these e-cards from loading.

My security settings are well above default, I can block all cookies and it still works.

Tried shutting down the browser and restarting--ok
Tried shutting down the int conn and restarting--ok
Tried rebooting--ok
Tried loading the e-cards at various times--ok

I am wondering if what your seeing is a problem with the web site at certain times.

I did notice that the card starts out with 6 or 8 items to load, which it does quickly and when it gets to 1 item remaining it switches to a different site.

Any way as many times as I have tried it I can not make it fail.

Basil,

Hallmark.com appears very fast, but loading the cards takes longer! Are you on dial-up?? That could be the reason? I'm on cable.

Bob, I too have winse and the same player. Having had a look in other forums quite a few people have my problem. It is an overworked site, but I do not think that this is the problem because during the period when it works, and this is when I have changed to a new flash player, it loads straight away.

Thanks for your input.

Marianna, I am on dial-up which probably doesn't help.

ITS BACK AGAIN
Mar 22, 2004 7:29PM PST

The time is 23:15 here in New Zealand, all the good people of America are in bed and the Hallmark site is working perfectly, which suggests to me the problem is a weak link and I am being squeezed out by the weight of traffic.

I will try again tomorrow during peak time.

It is 10:30am US est whatever that works out to in new zealand time and I just tried the site again.

Downloaded 3 cards with no issue.

I am still thinking this is a site issue something like trying to get into these boards at certain times.

My testing over a couple of days has shown no problems.

Good luck......
