General discussion

downloading from the internet

for some reason when I try to download from zd-net, I cannot get pass the process of starting the download. It gets to, "if the download does not start in a few seconds you will be sent to another site," from then on nothing happens. this problem began several weeks ago after messing around in my register files.

What ''OS'' and what browser used?

1. A possible reason is if the McAfee Safe & Sound is installed on a system, you will need to contact McAfee for a resolution or patch or remove the program McAfee Safe & Sound through the Add/Remove Programs applet.

2. With IE open, click Tools, Internet Options, and then click the Security tab, click each of the four "zones". Click the button Custom Level... and in the Settings: section check all items for a dot denoting an item as Disabled and if founded, Enable -- particularly in the section titled, "Downloads".

3. If the download option Always ask before opening this type of file is Null, files downloaded are automatically saved in the Temporary Internet File (TIF) folder and opened by the associated program. You are therefore not prompted for a location, [Q177976].

4. "Internet Explorer Window Closes When You Click a Download Link (Q268976)."

5. "Internet Explorer 5.5 Browser Window Closes When You Click a Link to Download Files (Q275290)."

6. "Cannot Download with Internet Explorer (Q29932Cool."

try using "TuneUp". You can download it here at Cnet. If the registry is your problem this can help clean and repair it. If that does not work use System Restore and go back to when it did work. Also there is a good chance what you were downloading is available here @cnet. It may just work
