Downloading from Hard Drive

Hey guys, I recently got a message on my HP computer that said "Hard drive failure is imminent". Right now it is still working just fine but I'd like to pick up a new hard drive. Its a Samsung SP 1614C. What I'd like to know is how do I download all my info from my old hard drive to the new one. Please don't get too technical as I'm not a computer geek. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even a recommendation for a different hard drive that would make things easier for me to understand. Thanks in advance.

If this was the boot drive or not for the HP.

But what you need to look at is this -> Does the new drive come with cloning software and the instructions on how to move to your new drive? Most retail drives do.

What brand is the old hard drive?

In reply to: Downloading from Hard Drive

The cheapest (free) and easiest solution is to connect both hard drives at the same time and use the software offered for download by the manufacturer or the old hard drive to clone it, effectively making the new drive an identical copy of the old. Then just shut down, connect the new drive in place of the old, sit the old aside, start up your computer, and make sure everything appears to be there. I don't believe Samsung offers such, but Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital do, so if your old hard drive is made by one of them you may be in luck.

Samsung Hard Drive

The old hard drive is a Samsung sp1614c. How do I connect up both drives at once to clone the new one like the old one. Do new drives made by other manufacturers normally come with cloning software.

The new drive. . .

will have the software. When you buy the new drive, it will (should) come with the clone software CD, and it will work with the old drive. You'll need to either put the new drive into the PC as a slave, or use an external USB-2 case. You install the software, and follow the instructions on the CD.

I prefer Seagate.

Disk Copy

In reply to: downloading a hard drive

Yes, the best way is cloning your old hard drive to the new one. You may try a program DISK COPY, which works as sector to sector based. It is very easy to use.

Downgrade for easeus titles.

They spammed the forums and for that you should avoid them.

New drives often have cloning software. There are also good free titles out there.

I'm sure it's free.

Not good enough.

Anytime you see a product spammed by a member in the forums you have to question why their only reply is that product. They must be spamming for a reason. It's usually not a good one.
