Downloading Camcorder to PC

I have a Panasonic Camcorder: PV-GS31 with a USB Cable and my PC is Windows ME. How can I download the video from Camcorder to PC. Merely plugging in the USB cable from the camcorder to the PC doesn't seem to work. I've downloaded a driver from the Panasonic website but it still doesn't help. Nothing registers on the PC. What to do?

I've learned my lesson and will share it. Use firewire and try WinDV.
