Question

Downloading attachments!

Apr 28, 2011 1:01PM PDT

I am exhausted trying to find the answer...possibly since I am not techi I'm not wording correctly but here goes. In my old computer when I down loaded an attachment, it would ask me if I wanted to change the title & where I wanted it to be stored. Such as my documents or pictures. My new HP windows 7 with firefox as browser just automatically chooses documents or downloads with original title. I then spend hours trying to find and then must change name in order to locate easily..such a pain wasting so much time. Now I just emailed from old computer attached pictures I need and they automatically went into download file instead of pictures...& I can't move to pictures. Can anyone tell me what is wrong here. I have spent hours & am so frustrated!! I'm not even sure what controls this...Firefox,my computer, windows? I think it said it was opened with ? media control. There doesn't seem any method to control this...HELP!

Do you mean attachments in emails? And are you using Firefox to access your webmail (like gmail or hotmail)?
What happens if you use Internet Explorer in stead of Firefox?

In Firefox, did you check the settings for downloads in Tools>Options>General tab. What exactly are they? What happens if you change them to your liking?

And why can't you move such a downloaded file?

Answer
May depend on browser

I have this problem with opening webmail attachments with Google but not with Internet Explorer or with Opera. Both IE and Opera give me the option in a pop up screen to open or save the attachment and I always first choose to save to a particular folder so that I can scan it for a virus.
