Question

downloading and opening photos

Jul 27, 2012 3:24AM PDT

A friend has tried sending me a .pdf and .jpeg file. I cannot open them. They arrive as Firefox htm files and I have "no associated program". Neither of us use Firefox.

Are there programs I need to download to be able to receive and open these documents? Please don't tell me to install Firefox. I've tried it in the past and I don't like it.

Running Windows Vista, Word 2010, Google browser.

Thanks for any help given.

Answer
Did you try changing them to .PDF and .JPG?

It's possible you only need to rename these items so your picture viewer will work with them.

I have no such option. It's firefox HTML or nothing.

Maybe you have the file extensions hidden?

Answer
File association

Usually that is correctable by doing a file association from the control panel option under file association or default programs, depending on the OS.

How do I do that? Which program do I look for. MAJOR DUNCE here.
My OS is Windows Vista.

I guess I asked a question that none of the experts here can answer.

Thank you for trying.

Goodbye.

Renaming the file should be a basic skill. But you are right, why should folk today need to know this?
