General discussion

Downloading

Feb 11, 2011 2:24AM PST

Hello,

Something has happened with the formerly very nice CNET download page. If I go to the CNET download page for something I want to download, what happens? In the best case I get an error message, which I can't understand. In the worst case, my Firefox goes crazy! One window after another is opening and I have to force quit Firefox before I have a zillion windows crowding up on my screen.

I bought TechTracker 2.0 with a subscription for one year. That increased the level of strange behavior and it was quite impossible to use TechTracker to download anything! Why release something that obviously is not ready to get released yet? The good old CNET page was a dream compared to this night mare. Is someone else plagued by something like this?

and I do not see that problem here.

Does it do the same in Safari?

Is your Firefox up to date?

What version of OS X are you using?

Hi P and thanks for answer!

Oh yes, my Firefox is Up to date. 3.6.13. I had no problems until I begun to use TechTrackerPro and bought the subscription.
Yes, Itried Safari, and I could download witout any probems. The error message using Firefox says:
Failure: Error executing post to rest api(500). If you think this is an error, please contact CNET TechTracker Support for further assistance. Which I did. But no response. It is a real mystery! I will try to boot from another partition and see what will happen. I stay in touch.

Problems downloading.
Feb 12, 2011 3:53AM PST

Hi again P.

I booted from another partition with a Firefox on it. Now, another alert winow opened up:

"Alert: Firefpx doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocoll (cbsitt) isn't associated with any program."

The previous error messages show up directly within the Firefox window. The last one, however, showed up as a real Mac error dialogue. Firefox has never before failed me??? I can go to MacUpdate and download to my hearts content.

I'll never understand computers in spite of the fact that I have been using them for about 45 years Happy. That was long before there were any Macs visible.
Greetings

Problems downloading.
Feb 12, 2011 6:42PM PST

Hello again P.
I resolved the problems concerning downloading from the CNET page. Something was wrong in the folder "user/Applicationsupport/Firefox", so I copied it from another startup partition and, voila, everything became normal again. Of course I couldn't tell which file was corrupt, and I couldn't care less, but now downloading is normal again. I will try TecTrackerPlus again keeping my fingers cross that everything will be OK.
Greetings
