Microsoft may only support that from Internet Explorer. Try the old trick of setting IE to the default browser then get it to work. Now change to Chrome and see if it fails.
As this is discussed often I won't add what others have noted at https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=word+docs+open+with+chrome&as_epq=don+t

Hi,
A couple of months ago, I bought Microsoft Office Software off of Amazon and downloaded it to my computer.
The software works fine when I open it, however, it will not let me open any type of file I downloaded right from Google Chrome.
The process I have to use is to open Word, go to Open, and then locate the file in my Downloads folder. This has become very tedious.
If I try to open a file directly, it gives me an error message: "This file does not have a program associated with it..."
I tried to hook up my software to the files in the Control panel, but the software is not even on my list of programs. This does not make sense because I can click on them and use them.
Has anyone else had a similar experience that they resolved? Thank you!
