Download XP updates onto a diff computer?

May 20, 2005 7:26AM PDT

My dialup is too slow to download these enormous
XP Updates.
Can i download them onto a friend's DSL computer,
then transfer them to mine.
Where would they normally (automatically) be stored on my XP system?
Then after i download them and transfer them,
how do i notify my computer that the updates are ready and waiting to be installed?
Thanks!

You want to use the non-automatic side of updates. You must manually d/l those updates and they run once you select them as they usually .EXE files. Check the corporate side of the MS support download section and find what updates you need, burn them to a CD or if your lucky find someone who has a XP2 update CD, MS even allows(strongly suggests) to copy those to help spread updates. You can also check MS for any free CDs send to you only s/h costs or request such a specific service at cost.
