Question

Download still actively using bandwith even when paused

Dec 4, 2015 2:57AM PST

Hi!

I just had this problem the past few days. Basically, when I'm downloading, the speed degrades overtime to near zero and when I paused, it appears that the download is still going on and uses a maximum bandwith.

It's not software related because I tried using IDM, Flashget and even Chrome and Firefox basic download manager but the result is still the same. And I know it's not from my ISP because when I switched OS and download using any software, the problem never arise.

When I use Nirsoft NetworkTrafficView to see what I'm connected to, it shows the site that I'm downloading from. So, it appears that the download somewhat lingers and echoing to the point where my Internet get to slow crawl.

My system is Windows 10 and it did just have an update. I use Windows 8.1 on my other partition that didn't have this problem. I'm considering a clean install but I was hoping if any of you know how to fix it without reinstalling windows.

Please help, thanks!

Answer
IDM used to be malware ridden.

So you lost me with that and Flashget. If folk insist on installing known bad things what can you do?

That said, did you turn off Windows 10 P2P update system? Here's a google so you can pick how to do that.

Your comment gave me an idea about what I installed. So, I tried to recount everything and was sure that the problem started when I upgraded to Bitdefender 2016. I reverted back to the 2015 version and all is fine now. The firewall must have some kind of bug. I'm sure it wasn't a malware problem because I tried to download with Chrome and Firefox with the same result. Thanks for your reply!
