download problem

May 30, 2010 2:22AM PDT

When I try to download I get a box which gives me the option of Save or Cancel. If I click Save, I don't get an option asking me where to save, but something is downloaded. It's not in My Documents or in My Downloads, and I can't find it anywhere. How do I find it?

My Downloads?

You don't say what Operating System you are using, nor which browser, but in Windows the default location is usually in your "My Downloads" folder.

You can change setting that in the browser's Tools > Options settings. I changed mine to the Desktop.

download saves

Hi Mark

My version of IE8 does not have an "options setting" under tools. There is "Internet Options," but I couldn't find anything relevant under that. Can you give me more explicit directions? Thanks

Also, I've already checked My Downloads, and there is nothing there.

Thanks

Downloading in IE8
May 31, 2010 5:44AM PDT

If you are using Vista or Windows 7, when you click to download a file in IE8 you should be asked if you want to Run, Save, or Cancel.

If you click save, a Save As dialog window should pop up asking you where you want to save the files to, and you can choose the location there. I believe XP is the same.

If you don't see that "Save As" dialog, goto Tools > Internet Options, then the Security tab. With the Internet globe highlighted, click the "Custom level" button. In the new window, scroll down and make sure you have the following settings the same as mine;

Downloads
Automatic prompting for file downloads - Enable

File download - Enable

If they are not the same, select those, then click OK/Apply/OK

See if that helps.
