Download Operation time out

Mar 23, 2004 4:01PM PST

WinXP Pro SP!, IE6 SP1

I was downloading a file(Knoppix Linux boot disk) of some 700 MB via my DSL connection with connection/ransfer speed from the server of only some 13.5Kps, so downloading would have taken more than 15 hours. Half way through the download, I got a message that "Internet Explorer cannot download the file..there is an operation time-out...."(or words to that effect). Is this an IE problem, the server problem or the DSL provider problem ? How do I resolve the problem ?(Yes, I have tried other servers with higher speed). Thanks.

christy.

Christy,

Just a thought...

Any server that has a 700 MB file for download better offer something more than 13.5 Kps. That type of speed is basically "dial-up" and a "time out" might be perfectly appropriate for that type of connection after hours of download.

If your DSL does other downloads at a normal high speed rate, then I don't think its the DSL.

Hope this helps.
