Question

Download issues witih Digital Photo Artist

Nov 16, 2011 4:51AM PST

I have tried to download your Professor Franklin's Instant
Photo Artists and it is not working.

Let me explain.

I select "Download Trial" on your page - http://www.swsoftware.com/PhotoArtist.aspx.

The "Download Now" on http://www.swsoftware.com/PhotoArtist.aspx?pagetype=download takes me to a CNET download (http://download.cnet.com/Professor-Franklin-s-Instant-Photo-Artist/3000-12511_4-10602476.html?tag=mncol) that downloads a file named
"cnet_PhotoArtist2Trial_exe.exe".

When clicking on that file the CNET downloader downloads the
following file - PhotoArtist2Trial.exe (14.9 MB) and the CNET downloader then asks if you
want to install the program.

When you respond to install the "Photo Artist" software a
screen comes up (I would include screen snap-shots but don't see anyway to include them with this post) that asks if you want to install
"alarm clock".

Obviously, that is not the correct program.

Seems CNET has somehow got the wrong links for the download
and although the download files comes down as PhotoArtist2Trial.exe it is
actually an install of "alarm clock".

Thanks for your assistance.

Try the "direct download" link below that big green button. That downloads our special cnet installer. The direct download link is supposed to download only that program (but I didn't try).

Our special cnet installer is known to (offer you to) install all kinds of software you don't want. But it should install the program you want also, at the end. And you should be able to say No, thanks or uninstall the bloatware.

Nope. Doesn't work

Still the same issue. the file downloads OK, but once clicked on to install, it installs "alarm clock" and nothing else.

I have tried the "direct download link" with same results. The direct link also wants to install "alarm clock" and if you accept the offer to install alarm clock or not it still does not install the photo artist software. Something is messed up with that download.

I just tried your link and it does the same thing. Just to be clear, when I click on the file to install the program, it comes up with an install splash screen that indicates it is installing Professor Franklin's Instant Photo Artist, but when you click the setup button it then comes up with a splash screen to install "Alarm Clock". If you say yes to install alram clock, it installs alarm clock and then quits. If you elect not to install alarm clock, it just quits.

If someone knows of another location to download this program, please let me know. The CNET download is "no work-ee" for me...

Quick question
Nov 17, 2011 12:57AM PST

did you click the green button to download or the direct download link?

I used the green button and it worked just fine from start to finish.

Let me know so I can report it.

Thanks!

Green Button or Direct Download Link?
Nov 17, 2011 10:51AM PST

Would not install with either the green button or direct download link. I did get it to install by opening the self extractor (.exe) with winrar and then running the setup.exe within the self-extractor, but just running the self-extractor would only install "alarm clock".

Also, I wrote to the manufacturer of the software (streetwise software swsoftware.com) and they are no longer selling the software, so I guess the download issue is a mute point anyway...

Interestingly, I opened the photoartist2trial.exe file with winrar and then ran the setup.exe within the self-extractor and it installed photo artist and that's all.

I'll alert this thread to our forum manager so he can forward it to the download-team to research.

Thanks for telling.
