Question

download disappearred from dock and finder

macbook pro, osx ver 10.9. turned computer on and download icon missing from dock and finder. made a new folder that is now in finder and dock, but even though i saved a download to downloads, it doesn't go there. I have to search where it is to move it into the folder manually.

how can i get the original downloads folder back to have it work the way it is supposed to.

Answer
Use Spotlight to find the System's Download folder.

Once you have located it, drag it into the dock.

In Safari, assuming you use it, check that the Preferences (General) indicate the correct Download folder.
If necessary, use the "Other" tag to navigate to the correct folder. It should be in your HOME folder.
