Question

Download AVG Free without CNet Bloatware?

by AgonizingFury / July 27, 2013 2:26 PM PDT

I'm trying to download AVG Free on my computer so I can install it on my friends computer. A virus has disabled his ability to connect to the internet. Unfortunately, all I get is a stupid CNet "Downloader" (Read:Bloat/Ad/Mal-ware installer) and there doesn't appear to be an option to download just the AVG installer file. This also presents the problem that my computer is asking me to run a program that is not signed by the company that makes the program, which is a big no-no security wise, especially when it comes from a company that hasn't always had the best track record security wise. Could you please provide a link to download the full AVG Free installer, digitally signed by AVG.

Downloading AVG

Doesn't look like there is one.

I went to http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage and clicked on the download links and eventually I ended back at Download.com's AVG page

It seems AVG has little appetite in supporting their free version other than virus definition updates, and so has off-loaded download and install responsibilities to a third party, ie CNET.

I also don't see any option at the AVG Download.com page to download the installer 'free of add-ons', an option that is usually available to all CNET members including forum members.

I think you need to find another solution. Sorry.

Downloading AVG from AVG

For all you future users who may stumble across this page:

AVG still offers the download from their site but it's hidden
I don't know of any way to access it
I always forget where it is and then google "[year] inurl:free.avg.com" where [year] is the current year
I needed the download again and found this cnet page before I remembered how to find the download page... again.

Anyway, try this URL:

free.avg.com/download-free-all-product

For me, this redirects to the English page (probably based on my IP)
