Just click here to go to Microsoft's download site for IE 6.0 SP1. It runs on Windows 98 through Windows XP, so the only catch is waiting for the 80MB file (yes, I said 80) to download. (Just another reason I prefer Firefox for daily use.)
Hope this helps,
John
Why would your friend need a copy of IE 6.0 if he/she does not have an internet connection? Just curious.
John
He is wating for his DSL line to be installed and trying to get all of his software installed
Your friend should have a browser that came with Windows 98 (or a later version). Could be 4.0 or 5.0, depending on what versions of Windows 98 exactly.
Then, if he has ADSL, he can simply go to download.microsoft.com and download the latest version there. It's a 500 kB setup program, that initiates another download of say 15 Mb. No problem at all with ADSL. It's not worth the trouble to have somebody burn a version to CD, in my opinion.
Depending on the hardware provided by the ISP or bought (it could have a hardware firewall) it could make sense to install a firewall before in Windows 98 before connecting to the net (although Bob Proffitt says it's not necessary with Windows 9
. And if he plans to receive email or visit site that are not 'guaranteed' clean, he should certainly install antivirus also. You could burn free AVG or Antivir or Avast to CD for him, although it wouldn't be a problem if he downloaded it himself first thing (i.e. before IE6.0). Also tell him about anti-spyware (both Spybot and Adaware will run on Windows 98, to start with).
Good luck,
Kees
He really can't wait, can he? Oh, well, I can relate. but this is a non-issue, better done when he's online.
Tom:
I often see this problem come up in my work. Just go to the microsoft site for IE6. Just click here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx
This site offers download links and CD order links.

Yes, I was going to suggest the Microsoft Download Site to have M/S just send the CD "Windows Update Internet Pack". Has I.E. 6, Service Pack 1. You pay for shipping. Works good.
The disk has codes for 98, ME, NT, 2K, & XP.
If I may suggest you stay away from or at least think twice about the 'Security Update' CD. It boogered my 98se Installation but good. Had to wipe the HDD and start over.
I don't know about the US, but in Australia every issue of PC World and other computer magazines come with a double CD (PC World recently switched to DVD). These CD's always have browsers included - IE6, Mozilla and Opera. For about $5 it may be faster/easier to buy a computer magazine than a download from Microsoft or waiting for a CD to be mailed out.
