Question

Doubt about laptop

May 14, 2017 10:02AM PDT

I'd like to buy a laptop and for choice one, I applied the following filters:

(1) Dell
(2) Screen of 18"
(3) The less expensive

So simple that!

So, I got the following lists:
http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/category/laptops?appliedRefinements=4
http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/laptops#!facets=55846~0~14833549&p=1

The more cheap of the fist list (For Home series) is the of $499.00 and about the second list (For Work series,), $449.00.

Well, what I really want to know about these notebooks is if there is some bottleneck in the hardwares that can be extincted. Maybe it's missing a dual, trial or quad channel or maybe there is another processor with a architecture that better recompens reward each dolar invested.

So, I'd like to know your opinions...

Thanks guys...

Also you left out what these are used for. I see everyday use models. That is, a patient person that waits for the machine to boot in 5 or less minutes, updates that take hours and then you use the machine to do email, web, netflix and youtueb.

my answer

Well, in 2010, I invested too much time selecting meticulously piece by piece of my PC, buying the best hardwares with the best benefit / cost for my necessity. So, some years later, my video card (GFXFX 8800GT) burned and, in the face of new programs more weighted, my pc become a slug. Since then I do not care about details anymore.

I want to simply eliminate any bottleneck and maybe find the best performance / dollar (in absolute, independent of utility).

I didn't see such a model there for that much.

To meet today's usual owner goals I usually have to get into an i5, 8GB RAM, and SSD at the very least. For gamers, you know you want a dedicated GPU.

The models there at that price didn't have any of that.

I have an Alienware 18 which is 18.4" it was discontinued and brought back for a bit by Dell. I know of 1 18" screen laptop and thats the MSI with the desktop style keyboard and it runs over 3000. Acer Predator 21" was released in 2016 and it's 9000.
