double sided printing problem with HP PSC 2175

Jun 20, 2005 3:40PM PDT

I have a Gateway P4-300 that I am trying to get my HP PSC 2175 to work on. I'm having a problem getting it to print on both sides of the paper when there are more than 3 pages. Anything more than 3 and it skips a page or two---depending how many total pages. I have installed the software 4 different times with the same results. The first time I print it works fine, change to single page, prints fine, change back to 2 sided printing and it looses pages. Thought there might be a conflict with the hp 812c that was also installed (uses XP drivers) so removed it and it's drivers with the same reults. So I'm begging for someone to help me. Have already contacted hp and was told to reinstall the software---been there done that. I have tried everything I can think of. So----HELP PLEASE. Oh! Please email me just in case I can't find this page/place again. katrs@earthlink.net. Thanks.

Double sided printing

I have run into this problem repeatedly over the years with both ink-jet and laser printers, and have never found a truly satisfactory solution other than using a printer with duplex capabilities.

Reloading your drivers won't help, as it is a hardware problem, not software.

Why is it a printer that rarely picks up two sheets when printing one-sided, frequently picks up two sheets when printing the reverse of two-sided jobs? Is it just the inate iniquitiousness of inananimate objects, or is there a physical cause? I had suspected that when using a laser printer, a static charge built up on the pages causing the pages to stick together. However, waiting between the two runs to let the charge disipate doesn't seem to help. Most printers leave the paper with a slight curl; could this be why you get more double feeds with previously printed sheets than with fresh flat sheets? Whatever the cause, it is very frustating and makes two-sided printing less attractive.

My solutions? One, for small jobs on my laser, I hand feed the sheets one at a time. A bother, yes; but it works. For large jobs with multiple copies, I print single sided, then go to a copier with one-sided to two sided capability. Also a bother, and more expensive, but I havn't found a better solution.
Years ago, I bought a HP 970Cxi colotr inkjet with duplex capability. On that printer, the two sides of a sheet are printed in order before going to the next sheet.

I wish I could help more, and if anyone else comes up with a good answer, I will be very happy to learn it.

Thanks for the info and the "warning". Thought about the latter after I posted the question. Oh well. Here's hoping the bucks I paid for the anti spam software pays for itself. Think I'm gonna run this all in one into the ground and go for a different maker next time. Really unhappy with HP quality any more. Thanks again.
