Double-click takes me to Search instead of Open

by chaz4 / March 3, 2005 10:03 PM PST

When I right-click on a folder, the first item on the pop-up folder is Search instead of Open. This also means that when I double-click on a folder, I am taken immediately to "Search" Mode. I don't know how this change happened, and I don't know what to do to fix it.

Can someone enlighten me?

Here's another simple fix.
by Tufenuf / March 3, 2005 10:38 PM PST

chaz4, go to the link below, click on Win XP Fixes, then download & save the "Search/Command Prompt Opens When Double Clicking a Folder" (right side column). Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when finished.

"If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry".

Read the following subthread:

Help - C and D drives - Search not Open

You'll find there why it's happening, links to the two fixes are provided. Also, the observation that SP2 is immune to this bug.
