I was restoring e-machine back to factory to give to grandson. Restore disc would go to certain point and just stopped so I turned off computer (I know dumb)now when I try to boot system it says Windows is not able to complete the installation restart. I don't know if I wiped out the whole system. Do I need to install windows 7 Home Premium. I don't have any back up disc I would have to buy Home Preium 64 bit will this solve my problem. Is the problem solvable?

... you used restore disc, then you say you don't have a backup disc. Can you explain?

I don't know if I am answering this in the right spot. I tried using the restore disc it wouldn't complete the process I took it to best buy who said I needed new restore disc. I bought new ones from e-machine the new disc locked in the exact same spot. The message kept reading the computer was setting up but it never did. when I finally turned off the computer and turned it back on it said it was setting up but after a while it gave me the following message.
Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer restart the installation.
I don't know if I completely wiped out the who computer.

not sure what this means when I tried to run the restore disc I would hit F12 then it would come up and I would run the restore disc on what the computer said was the CDRom there was nothing else I did.

I believe your pc had no restore points saved , so it could'nt proceed to
an earlier time , the system hung and turning off wipe the progam .
Windows indeed needs clean install
I don't know if this needs saying , only use this Restore feature when experiencing
pc problems , But first check for saved restore points...

I can't find any restore point. I have tried numerous times to reinstall the recovery disc but it stops half way thru the third disc. When you say windows "indeed needs clean install" are you talking about the recovery disc as I have tried to reinstall numerous times, or do you mean just the Windows Home premium program or is it the same thing. One of the message I got was Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware. also got windows could not complete the instillation to install windows on this computer restart the installation which I did and got the same message numerous times, I have tried in safe mode, I ran the memory diagnostic, Got messages such as Windows can not find a system image. Tried debugging with no avail. also got windows set up could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware. help

then you must have added some hardware to it

And it's OEM checking program detecting that views it as not a system computer it can install on. Removal fo any peripheral cards you may have added, replacement of whatever you may have removed, would or should allow the software to install.

There was nothing added I was just trying to put it back to factory setting because I was giving it away. I had used the recovery disc before without a problem and this time didn't appear to be any different. The only thing attached to it was the mouse and I even tried to reinstall without the mouse by just using the enter key.

Yes to Windows 7 Home Premium : what i know about PCs I've learned the hard way and your issue appears
remotely familiar . If you have never-ever installed Windows before I'd seek assitance from PC savey friend..Its not hard ,just better to have help.. Maybe where you purchase Win7 , they can install it for you...
Um..about this "Restore Disk" you bought ? Its a blank disk ,where one can create a back-up of the programs nuts &bolts ..
About "Restore Points" at this point since the program is wiped out so are restore points..
So have Win 7 Home Prem installed , have them set up ur internet connection stuff , it can be tricky..

hello
Dec 31, 2013 1:38PM PST

The disc was purchased from the e-machine company it was 4 disc disc 1 says System Disc "the software included on this Disc was pre-installed on your hard drive at the factory and may only be used for backup and recovery of your Acer computer system" Disc 1 and 2 are the Recovery Disc and disc 4 is a Language disc. and each disc has the same message as underlined above.
I have another computer with Windows 7 Home premium on it also, but no disc just factory installed is there anyway I could copy anything from that computer and transfer to the other that's not working. While I'm at it with probably stupid questions I bought a refurbished HP which came with the disc for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and 32 bit. Is it possible that I could bypass Home premium altogether and just put Professional instead. I tried to and it would take me to the point to install but then I would get a message that said "The exception unknown software exception (OxC 000000d) occurred in the application at location Ox100510a8 click on OK to terminate program) and I did and it just would tell me if I wanted to install and continued to give me that message. If I have to buy Premium I will have someone else install. Another strange thing when I do try BiOS it says partition 4 I thought I only had 2 partitions on this and when I have tried to wipe clean all partitions it doesn't do anything just keeps telling me I have a partition 4. I want to thank all of you for your time, I know I should just dump the dumb thing but it's a challengeHappy

Thank you I just wanted to see if there was anything that could be done before I tossed it. It is pretty new but I think it would cost as much to fix as to buy another. It did snowball but you kept at it thanksHappy

I think this is exactly what the OP does, but it fails. So he's in a very unpleasant situation: a PC with no OS. Since a retail version of Windows is rather expensive (and not guaranteed to be succesful if this disk fails) the Linux suggestion from James seems a good idea).

Make him happy with a Linux version.

Linux Mint 13, supported till 2017, currently in top place of interest at distrowatch.
4 desktop versions, MATE, Cinnamon, KDE, and XFCE.
KDE is like a Pro version, MATE is midline, Cinnamon is midline but a bit more visual effects, XFCE is the economy version good for computers with 1GHZ processor and 1GB RAM.

And yet, this remains an option
Jan 1, 2014 5:06AM PST

And considering all the software currently available to poster is OEM type, tied each software recovery disc to each computer with it's specific hardware, not transferable to another, and the recovery disc to that particular computer not installing, I'd say the Linux option looks ever better.
