Don't Buy a Samsung Refrigerator!

Sep 7, 2016 9:49AM PDT

Bought a Samsung refrigerator about 4 years ago. It was working fine until a small spring (about 1" high) broke. The spring controls the left-hand door flap that retracts and allows the doors to close over one another. The spring is a cheap little piece of metal that as far as I can tell is designed to break within a relatively short period of time. I called Sears and had a repair man come out ($99 trip charge). I also found that the gaskets were torn. Had those replaced. It took two weeks to get the parts and I was charged $513 for labor and parts. I expected the parts charge to be exorbitant ($172 total for the spring and gaskets), but was blown away by the labor charge of $239. Why was I surprised? Because the original trip to diagnose the problem took less than 5 minutes...which was spent by me showing the service person the broken spring and the rip in the gaskets. Then he took another 10 minutes to call in and find out how much the parts cost and to order them. When he returned in 2 weeks to actually repair the refirgerator, it took him 15 minutes to make the repairs. So...20 minutes and $239 later, he said his firm in Portland is probably the only one in Portland that works on Samsung refrigerators because of the difficulty in getting parts. I wish Sears had told me about this when I was considering my original purchase. And by the way, the cost for parts and labor would have been an additional $102 more if not for finding a 20% off coupon on the Sears website. This is price gouging at its worst. The last time I will buy at Sears and the last time I purchase a Samsung product.
