Donna, I need help with IE-SPYADS

by Harv / July 7, 2004 10:44 AM PDT

I merged registry files from ie-ads-uninst.reg and there are STILL 53 items in I/E Security Restricted Sites, which keep reappearing even after clicking "remove" to delete them. Tried the "install.bat" procedure also, but the 53 items still remain.
I know that Spywareblaster includes some of the same listings as IE-Spyads, so I clicked "Disable All Protection" in Spywareblaster. No joy.

I had a similar problem in the past, but I was able to remove left over items previously by clicking "remove" on an item-by-item basis. :|?

Harv,

Did you try to reset the IE restricted site to default?

To reset: After you've uninstalled IE-SPYAD's domain/site list from the Restricted sites zone, you may want to Reset your Restricted sites zone security setting to the "Default Level." Open Internet Explorer's "Internet Options" (off either the "View" or "Tools" menu bar option). Hit the "Security" tab. Select the "Restricted sites." Click the "Default Level" button.

Harv,

This is what I observed in IE of Win2000:

After uninstalling IE-SPYADS by merging ie-ads-uninst.reg, there are still some sites left in Restricted site of IE. I disabled the protection of SpywareBlaster, there are still few sites left in Restricted site. I disabled Spybot-S&D immunized protection by clicking "Undo", there are 0 items in Restricted site.

In case you are using Spybot S&D immunize feature, you might want to "Undo" it and see if the items in your Restricted sites will go away.

I followed all your directions and the 53 items still remain. I uninstalled Spywareblaster rather than disabling it and did an "undo" for Spybot S&D immunization protection, but I cannot delete the remaining restricted site items. Sad

Harv,

Is there any other 3rd party programs that you are using that add/remove/edit restricted sites other than IE-SPYAD, SpywareBlaster, Spybot S&D?

53 items - Did you merged adult.reg before? If yes, try using the ADULT-UNINST.REG. If not, don't use ADULT-UNINST.REG.

Have your tried using the Auto method that hopefully will get rid of the remaining items?

From the author readme.txt:

AUTO: You can also uninstall IE-SPYAD manually by using the IE-SPYAD Install/Uninstall Utility (INSTALL.BAT), found in the main IE-SPYAD installation directory.

If the above still didn't help, I think you have to contact Eric L. Howes at eburger68@myrealbox.com

Sorry, I messed up and installed the new items using INSTALL.BAT instead of removing the 53 old ones. However, I tried the manual method several times for both regular and adult porn sites, before enlisting your aid, and it did not work.

Also, I cannot gain access to Eric Howes using the email address you gave me, as neither I/E nor Opera will allow me to do so. I/E won't display the page and Opera wants authentication, whatever that means. Sad

Can you launch your e-mail program to send him e-mail?

I'm going to try to send e-mail to the author to seek help (will send this topic link to him). Hopefully, he is free to help you on this issue.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
