Don't know where to start

by kdahl00 / September 18, 2009 3:40 AM PDT

I would appreciate any help to point me in which laptop or which features for a laptop I should be considering.

Here is my criteria:
16 or 17 inch screen
primarily used for facebook and for playing games online (i.e., sometimes we download the games for the free 60 minutes of play before deciding to purchase so it would need space for that.

I am going to purchase an external hard drive (Western Digital?s My Book Mirror Edition) to hold pictures so that does not take up space.

Any guidance would really be appreciated.

That those external drives are not "Storage."

Let's hope you have a backup.

I will check out the storage forums. An IT friend copied all my pictures to DVDs and then suggested I buy an external hard drive to move the pictures to this would free up space on my computer to allow it to run faster. He suggested I buy an external with 2 drives (?) for additional protection against losing saved items.

Is this not the best path to follow?

To stay in a "state of backup" we need no less than 3 copies on 3 devices or media. Today I'm unsure why these drives have no WRITE PROTECTION but we'll overlook that for a moment.

Why 3 copies? When one fails we have 2 copies or one to use and another as the backup.

The DVD media is great since we have to damage such to erase or change it.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
