What is happening is that you are being asked for your passphrase from the wireless router. If you don't know what it is then you are going to have to reset your wireless router to defaults, access the router and re configure your router with a new passphrase. (after you reset it security will be disabled.)this information available from your routers manufacturer. (usually the default password to access the router is on the bottom of the router)Keep in mind that there is one password to access the router and another password for wireless access. Just use the net or call tech support they can tell you how to reset your router.
I bought a gateway 802.11g wireless PCI card model WGP-230 about 2 years ago, installed it into my compaq and was all set, worked great.
I just bought a new dell, removed the PCI card from the compaq and installed it into the dell. In order for it to connect its asking me for a security key or passphrase. I don't have that information. I looked on the sticker on the PCI card and there is a bunch of information such as VIN, P/N, Gateway S/N, MAC. I'm not sure what those are but I tried entering them in as the security key and none of them worked. Interestingly all of them immediately gave me an invalid message except for the Gateway S/N. After entering that the connection tried to connect but eventually got the invalid message again.
I tried calling Gateway but can never get through to a human. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do?
Thank you in advance for any help. I appreciate it.
