Do I need anything for audio or will it all work with the vga things?

Converter box, no, but . . .

The VGA cable is for video only. You will need to connect the audio OUT on the laptop to an audio IN on the TV. Go to a Radio Shack or similar store for the proper cables. Take the laptop with you and make sure you identify the audio IN on the TV.

Now, find your owner's manual for the laptop. Make sure you are familiar with how to send the signal to the TV. There will be specific keys on the keyboard to enable the external video.

Also, make sure you understand the resolution of the TV's VGA port versus what resolutions are available from the VGA OUTPUT on the laptop. Do not expect stellar performance when using the VGA ports. It will be watchable, but no where near as clear as HD TV. More closely resembling standard TV.

Have fun.
