I'd like to get it right with some highly used terms. I look at it as following:
In every DC I can find a tool named Active Directory that contains objects (users, computers, groups) and organizational units which "organize" those objects. Then, I can find there another tool named Group Policy Management which uses GPOs' for managing AD objects and other stuff such as desktop background config for machines. Right?
When I want to connect to a laptop or a server elsewhere, I use either AD - writing domain\user or I can use local (admin?) and write for example winpc\user (where I write this, what do I need to set up for it?) or .\user (again where and when would I use it?) and where would I use \\winpc? Which in RDP, Splashtop, elsewhere?
Thanks!
