Question

Dolby Digital Greyed out Samsung Smart tv with Bose soundbar

Aug 9, 2017 2:09PM PDT

Hi all,

I know this question has been asked a lot but i can't figure out what to do...

Setup is as follow:
Smart tv - Sound bar through optical cable
Smart tv - PS4 through HDMI
Smart tv - Digibox (television) through HDMI

A few weeks ago i was able to select Dolby digital on the smart tv through the settings. The sound was good.
Now today I noticed the sound wasn't good anymore so i checked the settings. -> Dolby digital and DTS was greyed out. The setting was on PCM.

The setup didn't changed at all. Anyone an idea what I can do to fix this?

Thank you.
Jelle

Answer
Try this

Turn off all equipment, remove those cables from TV, then turn on everything but the TV, then put those cables back in.

Hi James,

Thank you for your reply.
This didn't work.

Extra information: DTS Neo 2:5 is available but when selected no sound noticeable.

since the TV is greyed out for that choice

it does mean it looked for that input but it wasn't available, so check the drivers in Windows on that optic output you have for the sound. It's possible some Windows update has over written your manufacture provided driver files and they need to be replaced.

Answer
Samsungs and other TVs do this far too often.

Hi R. Proffitt,

thank you for your feedback.
How do I use this device? Between which devices do I put this?
Soundbar and Smart TV or Smart TV and PS4?

Thank you.

It goes inbetween the PS4 and the TV

That way it splits off the HD audio and you send that off to the sound system. Now there are LONG discussions about all this, I elected to not repeat all that.

Way too much written already so nod to google and AVS Forums.
