Question

Dolby Advanced Audio V2/AudioWizard/Equalizers Not Working

Mar 30, 2016 6:11PM PDT

Hello, friends! I have an ASUS G20CB and it came with a great equalizer called Dolby Advanced Audio V2. However, I have noticed, this equalizer, as well as all other equalizers has no effect on my audio at all, including the other much less advanced equalizer called AudioWizard.
Restart does not fix.
Would love suggestions/any help!! I love equalizers even if they are fabled not to make much of a difference, and I would love to be able to use them. Thank you all for help!!

I am running:
Windows 10 Home 64x
16 GB of RAM
2 TB HDD
ASUS Nvidia Geforce GTX 970
Skylake Intel Core i7 (8 cores)
ASUS OC Z170 Deluxe Motherboard

Clarification Request
I'm missing where the audio goes to.

If over optical, HDMI it's been noted that some of these just don't work.

In short, many were designed for pre-digital audio days. That is, a sound card with analog lines to the amped speakers.

Sorry!!

I have a Corsair H2100, it's Bluetooth wireless headphones -- so it connects via USB 4.0. Could this be the reason why? When I first got this computer and these headphones, it worked fine, but now it doesn't work -- notably, I have updated my Windows 10 since then... could this also possibly be a problem?

I have turned off Windows 10 updates manually because they constantly uninstall huge games (I am quite a gamer) saying they're "incompatible" etc etc even if they work perfectly fine, so perhaps not having the latest update could also be the problem? What do you think? Thank you!

That's a good guess.

W8, 10 uses a more protected audio path so unless it's old school analog sound card, I can see why it fails. And while W7 did have a protected path, many programmers learned a way to get it working,.

For this one I think you're back to the author to ask why. I googled a little and could not uncover what app this is.

Now I did look at the Asus G20CB and they claim it has it's own AudioWizard with an equalizer like this.

I find that sometimes I get to go back to stock.

No sir!!

That is not at all what mine looks like.. Sad

This is what mine looks like!
Any other ideas, or any equalizers that work with 10 you know of?
Gosh, Microsoft, so mean..

Optionally, and slightly off topic haha --
Interesting though, I find Windows 10 to be like.. my analogy: You have to throw stuff at your computer to use it, and your computer.. well, Windows 7 is made of titanium, 8 is made of toothpicks, 10 is made of really thin overinflated balloons, from my experience. Haha. What do you think?

Also, thank you SO much for your help!! I totally appreciate it so much!

This sounds like a mess. (pun intended.)

If you have Asus's still in there and try to add another I wonder what happens.

https://www.google.com/#q=equalizer+for+windows+10 finds many things. Some APO that seems to work and lots of folk with mixed results. I don't have your PC so if I wanted to try this, that's the search I would use.

HOWEVER I don't see where this Dolby equalizer is coming from. I guess I have to ask. WHERE IS IT? Give me a link so I can see if there are priors about it and 10.

Hey, you're no better, my dude!

I will totally let you know! I'll try APO. Gee, this turned into me being a guinea pig.. well, I'm sure it can't destroy my computer if I try.. (and then, that happens!) But I'll update you on it and tell results! My guess: It will do nothing. But you never know!

Here ya go, this is what Dolby looks like:

I messed around with those settings because it made no difference and I was making sure I wasn't going insane and just imagining it not working. Confirmed, it doesn't work at all, haha.

Here it is in my tray! It's in the bottom left. Sorry for the icons!! I got rid of some to make it clearer for you, I apologize.

Here's a slightly advertise-y link because it's all I can find from official Dolby that seems reputable, so I apologize for that:
http://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologies/dolby-advanced-audio-v2.html

Apparently everything is "built" for your system! Wow, I couldn't tell.. probably because it isn't and they slapped it in there, but I guess you never know.

Optionally....
It's just an equalizer.. Heehee, I find it funny they try to make it seem like it's The God of All Music Stuff Ever or something.. it doesn't do anything too special, from what I've read.

Also, since this is already a mess, thanks for being human.. an odd compliment, but I have always hated responses that sound like a robot wrote them. Unless you're a robot, which means you're totally the best robot. 8D

Ahh, now this I can use.

Thanks for pointing out where it is. Now I do have bluetooth and bluetooth headphones and a W10 machine.

If dolby.com has a driver or app. I'll try it out over the next day.

I tried installing Sourceforge APO.. it died, I think.
It said it needed to restart my computer to finalize everything, and so I let it do its thing, and.. it never came back and I can't find any traces of it on my computer.
RIP in pepperonis, APO Equalizer.
Good luck by the way, dude! If you need an installer for it I can supply.

Don't feel bad

A lot of folks have tried to get over on Bob and failed.
Get over it ...

Wot?
Mar 30, 2016 9:28PM PDT

I think you posted on the wrong topic..
Who is Bob? Is Bob okay? Why are people trying to jump over Bob? Is he too tall, is that why they failed?
.. Paint me confused.
Did you mean APO?
In that case, I still need an equalizer...

Just an update.

It's been a long day here with spending far too much time on a car repair.

Tomorrow when the fog clears I can pull out my guinea pig W10 machine and give it a go. I do not have a nice rig like yours but I think I need to give this a whirl and see what happens.

I like these sort of questions as it answers some I have laying about. Such as what happens to the factory equalizer and if W10's new protected audio system is different.

Sorry to hear!

I'm sorry your car is broken down! I hope that it gets fixed soon for you and nothing else happens.

That's okay! I so appreciate this, this is awesome and I appreciate the lengths you're going to! I am unsure of whether or not you can download ASUS AudioWizard or Dolby Advanced Audio v2 anywhere.

I think it definitely has to be a little different, or it would not make very much sense for it to stop working.

Interestingly..
The Dolby equalizer gave way to the info that it can't even tell when you're running audio -- whether it be in a game, on a browser, or in general, if that helps you at all in your journey!

Long story.
Mar 30, 2016 10:17PM PDT

Not a breakdown. My son's car with almost no repairs in over a decade, a rule change in emissions testing so to the shop to get a lot of parts and passing. It's also a 2002 Hybrid and we found a new battery at the right price so back to over 50MPH we go.

Just a repair but here's the deal.

I've googled the parts, looked them up on Amazon and challenged them to keep the prices inline with at least Amazon.com. That has resulted in over 1,000 bucks on one item alone.

I'm sure auto shops hate the internet.

Ouch!

Gee.. sounds pretty rough, and a tight situation. I'm so sorry that's happening to you and your son! I have no idea how old you are but I hope that everything clears up and it doesn't dent your cash-stash too much (or his!).

I'd help you, but I'm just some kid. There isn't much I can do, but I do hope that you end up paying a lot less than expected.. or get a good deal, or at least that things work out.

Hrm, if it makes you feel any less alone in terms of crooked car situations that dent cash-stashes, someone who would rather text on their phone with no multitasking ability whatsoever (seemingly most drivers have the ability to sleep, eat, text, and drive at the same time... not this person!) caused my father and my sister to both get into a car accident that was completely irreparable -- so my family is down to one car.. most likely permanently, and my sister is now afraid to enter a moving vehicle. If you go too fast she'll scream at you to slow down.
