Resolved Question

Doesn't install the driver

Jan 25, 2014 8:18AM PST

I've tried installing a driver for the Dell mini 1010 w/no luck. It just doesn't get done for XP-32bit and using the Dell support drivers. It's the last item to be installed to finish the install. No recovery disc was used as the client lost it and its been gone a long time ago.

Listed under device mgr under "other devices" as:

CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller (yellow flag)

Is there a procedure to correctly follow, because when I do use the driver is says, "complete and ready for use" but the line item doesn't go away, still "error code 28". Yes, I have already use the Dell support webpage for this product. Is there another driver for a non-SiliconLabs product?

I tried that

I tried various 3rd party install s/w. It never works and I follow the install instructions to the letter. Nothing makes it work or allow the line item to be resolved. The odd thing is the install s/w returns that its either ready for use -OR- the install s/w isn't found depending on the version being installed. I think the s/w not found is more about the actual h/w device that will eventually use it. As, I have no h/w device of yet to use it or report finally connected, etc., it fails or doesn't work. I conclude it must be SiliconLabs chip that maybe blown even if it knows it's there. I believe as a Dell option it was for some GPS device. It's a shame, everything else is installed, maybe this is why the mini was sold. thanks -----Willy Happy

Finally resolved

Make note, as I looked all over. I was on the right track having to install some s/w for a h/w device that unknown to me was installed as a "mini-card", that's GPS. Check the link:

My being online to allow Dell to scan didn't help either as it took so long. If I knew I had some h/w installed and not refer to ancient build-page, I could have gotten this done sooner. So the mini 1010 is a go.
