Question

Does usb to usb via cable between two computers work?

Mar 18, 2013 8:35AM PDT

I had to take all my files off a Vista machine and put them on a new Win 8 machine. I tried MS's download called Express Transfer, with poor results. The computer shop had a Belkin product with usb connectors on each end of a cable. There may be other brands too. The cable had some kind of giz in the middle. I'm wondering if I should go that way the next time.
Has anyone had direct experience using one of these devices for a lot of files, maybe 50 GB worth. How long did the transfer take? Were there any downsides to this approach?
This was posted several days ago, but I've had login problems, now solved, and can't find the old thread. Try 2.

The beauty of any of these "bridge cable setups" is that it's complete solution. You get the cable and s/w and probable help guide. Install it and proceed to transfer data. Since, this is at USB ports, you're limited by the USB speed as well, so don't consider it blazing fast, but quite helpful in getting the task done. You needn't run around getting this or that and hope individual items work to include s/w. All this is a great help for less than apt users.
