It can also be a banged up OS or someone tried to update drivers via Windows "driver update" or from other than Dell (use your service tag.)
The BlueScreen is not uncommon in older banged up OSes. How long since you started fresh?
I was minding my own business when suddenly my headset went silent. I tried troubleshooting it, spent an hour on the phone with Logitec and got nowhere (other than a new headset). After reading some posts, I looked at the USB ports in the Device Manager and two of them had yellow alerts. I disabled and re-enable them, but after a few minutes they came back. Between that and trying to plug the headset into different ports, the alerts were happening randomly in the 8 USB ports. Even my printers weren't responding well. I plugged a different headset in ... and now I got a blue screen. Even the Renasas 3.0 port was quirky. Some things, like my external drive work fine ... and some things like the printers and headsets set off fireworks. BTW: this is DELL XPS 9100 [Mid2010] running Windows7. Thanks for any advice.
