Question

Does this build look fine?

May 3, 2014 4:49AM PDT

I am currently researching and trying to figure out what parts i should get for my first PC. And after a while i am kinda set on these parts-

CPU
Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor

Motherboard
ASRock B85M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory
A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card
Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II Video Card

Case
Corsair 350D MicroATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply
XFX TS 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Optical Drive
Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer

Operating System
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Any advise on these parts or if you know this is a good build. I should also clarify that i dont want to overclock and i want to run games like dark souls 2, bf4, etc. at max or high settings. Any advise would be appreciated

Answer
As an owner of a full tower with 14 drive bays..
May 3, 2014 7:10AM PDT

6@3.5" internal 2@2.5" external and 6@5.25" external drive bays, I'm super skeptical about small cases especially with minimal drive bays (4 total), big GPUs and limited potential expansion.

That said are you sure that GPU will fit in the case you selected?

Re the RAM.....looking at the link below I'm not sure I'd pick A-Data and if possible I'd shoot for 16GB vice 8GB.

I dont see why i need more drives and if i need a bigger case i can go for the NZXT
Source 210 Elite for a normal atx motherboard and would i really need 16gb ram?

Gaming....most folks that build that sort of rig will go with a mid-tower or a full tower case.....think cooling.
That gpu is a 230w unit ...think heat.
The Corsair case seems to be a small mid-tower case....your call.

Serious gamers do not build with micro anything.

I think your psu is going to come out a little light.
If the budget allows bump that to the 650/700w area.

Gaming is not cheap.

You asked for advice without much detail regarding use

...I'm just answering your post with the best advice I can give. As always, it's up to you.... but having done this since '86 or so, I'd never want to start a new system being so limited for drive bays as sometimes they are used for other things like extra port outputs, fan controller panels, etc., and it's a shame to be forced to a bigger case when you could have done that at the beginning. Same with RAM, better to get max needed up front than to have to add more later...8GB is fine if you don't multitask but you didn't really tell us how you plan to use the PC now or in the near future.

Are you really sure the GPU is not too long for that case ?

Re the MB..... buyer reviews make this a questionable choice ... did you look at any others ?

to be more specific
May 3, 2014 1:45PM PDT

I want a pc just to play games at max or high settings, no multitasking, you know play some dark souls 2 for a bit and than go on with my life. And i am not planning to go insane with fan controllers and a water cooling systems with 12 fans all over the case (still going to get a couple though) And due to my budget i might go down to the 760 rather than the 770. about a $950 budget. As you can probably tell i am not going to overclock. And i know the motherboards and PSUs and the cases aren't the best but sooner or later im going to contact my friend that knows a lot about computers too. And thank you on your advice was gratefully appreciated.

Let's be clear

If you want to game.
You get at least a mid tower case.
You get an atx mobo.
You get at least 8GB of ram......if the budget allows go to 16GB.

Factor in a psu large enough to support the rig your building.....if you don't it will bite you in the butt.

what mobo?

Which company do you recommend for motherboards

None

I would go to some place like Newegg.

Select mobo's
Filter by type..socket...features...budget.

Then it's off to read the reviews on my picks.
