Does the PS3 play re-writeables

Oct 25, 2009 10:02PM PDT

My old DVD player doesn't play re-writeables and this is a feature I want. Friends advise me to buy a PS3 slimline as it does 'everything'. We have a PS2 which is used mostly for Scrabble. What exactly does a PS3 do apart from playing games?

It plays movies

It plays movies. Specifically it plays blu-ray movies on top of regular DVD movies. There's also some other stuff you can do with the PS3, but gaming and bluray movies make up probably 90% of everything people are interested in.

Thank you

Thank you for the information. I think I need to know a bit more about DVD discs before I buy anything though. My player plays movies bought on DVD but won't play them if they are copied onto DVDs, or if photos are made into a DVD recording. I wondered if it was something to do with the difference between DVD and DVD+RW

Depends on the drive

Depends on the drive whether or not it will read those. And rewritables have probably the lowest success rate of them all. Most of the time you can get DVD-R/DVD+R discs to work, but +/-RW have a low success rate.

Thank you very much. I think I understand now. I shall buy DVD-R rather than DVD-RW in future.
