Does the new U2 iPod include U2 music now..?

Jun 10, 2006 6:06AM PDT

I remember the old U2 iPod including the U2 box set... but is it just me, or does this one only include a 30 minute video clip of U2?

A buck a minute

Yep, for only 30 bucks, you get a ... video and a crappy looking iPod. Considering I can get an hour and a half video of Firefly for $1.99, somehow the whole package isn't adding up.

I don't think so...

From the Apple website:
"The iPod U2 Special Edition also comes with an exclusive iTunes Music Store coupon you can redeem for a 30-minute video of music videos and band interviews. Think of it as your virtual backstage pass."

So I'm guessing that it does not come with loads of albums or Apple would be making a huge fuss of that.

The old U2 iPod didn't inclue their entire music collection either, it only contained a $50 coupon for the U2 box set on the iTunes Music Store.

TMV NEEDS TO READ AWINN'S POST!!!!
Jun 11, 2006 11:33PM PDT

Thank you for pointing out (YET AGAIN !!!!) that the 1st U2 iPod never came with songs. Everyone should read this awinn?s post for details, but seriously, the BOL crew got this wrong a while back when the 1st U2 iPod came out. Then they got it wrong all over again when the Harry Potter iPod came out and now again!!! Come ON!! TVM should know the routine by now!

Its for U2 fanboys and collectors

The market here is for big U2 fans and collectors. The back has signatures of the band on the back. And, I suppose, that given the limited release nature, it will draw enough interest in those fields.

This is kind of a niche product, so don't expect that the pricing is going to make economic sense to most of us.

I'm a pretty big U2 fan and I'd buy it for the box set...

...but not for 30 minutes of low-res video.

If you bought a U2 iPod and found out that the U2 iPod has never come loaded with any U2 iPod, only a coupon for the iTMS.

People read the specs!!!

The both the original U2 iPod and the new one DO NOT come loaded with U2 songs. iPods don't come loaded with songs because iTunes does not allow you to pull them off (normally - yes there are ways, but not supported). They come with coupons or codes to download the content so you have it on your computer and then sync to the iPod. The original U2 edition came with a $50 discount coupon for the Complete U2 set. The $30 extra is for the signatures, the exclusive coloring and the exclusive content.

Even if it did come "loaded" with every U2 song that a fan already owned, I hardly think an additional $30 over the price of a normal one would be considered equivalent to "paying twice" for the songs you already own. Anyway, that's not the case, so just drop it. If you are not a U2 fan, just ignore this model. What's so hard about that?

What's so hard that people can't just go to http://www.apple.com/ipod/u2/ and check the specs before shooting their mouth off or playing totally misinformed callers' rantings on their podcast.
