Does the LinkStick USB Actually Exist? Will It Ever?

Nov 9, 2008 2:04AM PST

I have been trying to obtain the Samsung WIS08BG2X LinkStick USB Wireless LAN adapter since I got my new LN52A850 last month with no luck. Originally, I was told Samsung had it on backorder for 4 to 5 weeks. Best Buy does not have it. Yesterday Amazon informed me that it would not be available until February 2009! Is there somthing proprietary to Samsung about it? Can a generic USB LAN adapter be used? Since the manufacturer is unable to supply it, does Samsung have any specific brand or model recommendations?

If you give me a day or two, I should be able to have an answer for that.

availability of wirelass LAN USB adapter

I tried to install a Netgear wireless adapter and it did not work. So, the Samsung unit must be proprietary even though it meets the same wireless standards as other adapters. When will they be available? Thanks.

USB Link Stick

I finally got mine from Amazon.com after waiting for about a month. It's really kind of a waste. It only hooks you into the "InfoLink" feature (news, weather, stocks, and the weather is always wrong!) which can be interesting for a while but gets old quick. A LAN it is NOT.

A workable alternative

I finally gave up on getting a Link Stick and bought two Netgear Wall Plug ethernet bridges. I paid $18 each for refurbished ones at eCOST. I have seen them as low as $10. They work flawlessly. The info link is fairly cool. Good to quickly check the weather, stocks, etc. Only down side of the Netgear units is that they can not be plugged into a surge protector.

I just received an email from Amazon. They have them in stock and ready to ship. I just ordered mine today.
